If you are interested, please let us know here: If you are on Android 11 or higher, and Sketchbook version 5.3 or later, your files are in the folder Internal Storage > Pictures > Sketchbook Gallery If you are on Android 10 or below, your files are in Internal Storage > Autodesk > SketchBook3 The TIFF files in this folder are your Sketchbook art. Now we’re looking for external users to beta test the update. We’ve pressure tested the migration on large Galleries with giant files. We’ve been testing this release rigorously and feel it is very solid. In good news, this release will include the updates to the Color Editor that we’ve been promising! We’ve also made quite a lot of performance improvements and we think you’ll be really pleased with the experience. This data migration will not be a welcome process for everyone, but the change in the API required us to move the files, it was not an option to leave them where they are. This change will only affect users on Android 11 and 12, the API30 access changes do not apply to older versions of Android. This next release will migrate your Sketchbook data from the current location in the “Autodesk” folder, to a new folder in Pictures. Our support team does hear from people who want a heads-up before a major change, so here it is. It’s taken more time because we are required to update to Google's API 30, which has a major change in where apps are allowed to access and save files. Exiting from DeX mode should enable the migration to progress. We know that those of you using Sketchbook on Android have been waiting for an update for a while. Data can be manually migrated, please reach out to our team at for help.ĭevices in Samsung DeX mode may fail to start the migration. Information on how to backup your files can be found in this article: Backing up files before Android update.ĭevices that are managed by Google Family Link may fail to start the migration due to the additional restrictions on the account. We have rigorously tested this process, but if you are concerned about the safety of your data it is always a good idea to have a backup. You can back up your data prior to the migration Please do not force-stop the migration once it has started, as we cannot guarantee that your data will be safe if you do this. Duration of the migration will also depend on the device specifics. If you have a large Gallery, this migration will take extra timeĪs an example, a large Sketchbook Gallery of 9GB may take 30 minutes to migrate. The migration will start, the screen will show you the progress % of the the migration and how many sketches have transferred.Īt the end of the migration, your sketches will appear in your Gallery. The migration may not work while the device is mirrored to another display. If you use desktop mirroring or Samsung DeX mode, disable it before starting the migration. You must select "Allow" to continue the migration. You'll see a prompt asking you to allow Sketchbook access to files in the Autodesk folder. If you encounter a permissions error when selecting the folder, please check that you have selected the "Autodesk" folder. Then tap the blue "Use this folder" button at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the "Autodesk" folder to select it. When you start the migration, you'll be shown your internal storage folders. Sketchbook is no longer allowed to save its data to the "Autodesk" folder it has used for years, so all your data must be migrated to a new folder. The new API changes where on your device apps are allowed to open and save files. Sketchbook version 5.3 and higher include an update to Google's API, this is a requirement for all new and updated apps. Devices with earlier versions of Android or on Chrome OS will not see a change in how files are opened and stored. These changes will apply only to devices using Android 11 or later. This change only affects Android 11 and 12
